Mind-Controlled Keyboard
Mind-Controlled Keyboard
roles: neural interface designer | EEG researcher
Motivation
As a neural interface product designer and EEG research engineer, I designed the interface for MindType 2.0, a mind-controlled keyboard powered by the OpenBCI Headset with the Cyton Board! As a brain-computer interface (BCI), MindType uses electroencephalography (EEG) technology and hybrid SSVEP/P300 event-related potentials (ERPs). This project was part of the NeuroTechX Student Club Competition as a University of Toronto entry from the NeurotechUofT team.
Methodology
I was tasked with creating a fresh aesthetic and modern user experience for the keyboard as current market solutions are outdated. As seen below, the interface design included pages with an EEG headset connection, signal calibration phase, live keyboard with AI autocomplete suggestions, binary/multiple choice, and a break period for users to rest in between typing sessions.
